From a Warfare: 1917 fan

I am a huge 1917 fan, but this game didn't quite live up to expectations. Firstly, you "improved" the game by making it needlessly complicated. The three routes are an interesting spin, but ultimately don't make the game more enjoyable. Secondly, why does cover only hold one unit? Part of the fun of 1917 was strategically sending all of your men out of the trench at once for a massive assault. You simply can't do that here, all you can do is supply a steady stream of men to get mowed down.

Another major issue is that you have not fixed the unit balancing. The "Conscript" upgrade simply makes this worse. Buying Riflemen for 100 and the occasional Assault Squad for 300 is all you need to win the game. Once Tanks come around, replacing Assault Squads with Panzershreck/Bazooka teams will let you steamroll everything. The Officers and their Air Support, while ultimately the most strategic thing you can do, are way too expensive and ineffective to be used effeciently. MG34/.30 Cal teams are somewhat effective, but will ultimately get zerged by a steady stream of cheap units. Sharpshooters aren't even worth ranting about, they are so terribly ineffective for their massive cost.

Considering that winning the game is all about "zerging" the enemy with massive quantities of cheap units, I found them taking cover at everything along the way really annoying. I found myself not even focusing on the action, having to manually force every unit i sent over each and every bit of cover along the way.

One thing I did like, though it doesn't seem to be very popular, is the addition of Resource Costs and each unit being on a seperate cooldown. This does fix the clumsy system in 1917 and doesn't really have any drawbacks that I can see.

The game has some massive potential, but I'll be sticking with Warfare 1917 for a timewaster. This game simply doesn't have the same fun factor 1917 did.

Verdict: 4/10

Really, really amazing game!

First off, mad props for making a WW1 game. Don't see enough of these in general.

Secondly, the gameplay was simple, yet extremely satisfying. I was rooting for my German Infantry when I sent them over the trench.

The unit balance was a bit off though, after playing custom battles on Hard with varying settings (I don't like the tanks personally, so I disabled them), it seems like the Sharpshooter and Officer units are a little weak considering their cooldown time. First off, all that cost resting on a single unit really hurts whenever they get hit by a mine/artillery strike/etc. Secondly, they don't seem all that effective. I never had trouble with morale, usually winning with 70% or higher, so the Officers weren't necessary. Also, the sharpshooters seem to miss quite a bit and only have slightly more range than the Rifleman unit.

Besides these minor qualms, amazing flash game dude! The custom battle feature is particularly awesome, with all the variables it gives the game crazy good replay value.

Verdict: 10/10

Very Guitar Hero-Esque

Pros:
+Excellent interface
+Balanced gameplay (difficulty levels are somewhat harder to meet than the last, but not too difficult)
+Addictive gameplay

Cons:
-Could've had more songs (I know your file size is almost maxed out, which is probably to blame)

Great game! 5 out of 5 stars.

Glaiel-Gamer responds:

nah my filesize isn't maxed out yet (I have 15 MB cause I'm special).

It's just that... synching a song takes forever and is so tedious and boring to to.

Functional, but not without its faults

Pros:
+Excellent sound quality
+Wide variety of well-chosen clips

Cons:
-No "back" button to return to a previous screen
-No "stop" button to turn off the lengthy sounds. Without it, I found myself stuck having to listen through entire clips as to not overlap them with another.
-Interface is not polished or pleasing to the eye.

All in all, this is not a bad soundboard, but the exact same thing has been done before, and it has been done better. 3 out of 5 stars.

2r0x0rs4you responds:

Actually, Pressing "Space" Stops all sounds. Prehaps I will make a button to do so, though. Damn, I DID forget a back button. Sorry. I'll fix that!

Very cool!

I love the graphics and style you have here. Make it into a real game with some levels, and possibly some AI players, and this will be a great game. Unfortunately, this is just an alpha, and is really not completed. Finish it please!

Scotttheskaterr responds:

Yea. I will soon

Mundane, unoriginal, but passable.

I for one voted to pass this into the portal, simply because it is a functional game, and isn't half bad. On the downside, I have seen about a dozen games almost exactly like this one. Next time, try something more original and inspiring, I can see you have the talent to make a great game.

Pathetic.

People who hate 'emos' with passion somehow manage to pull off the most amazing stunt ever: They are actually more pathetic than emos themselves. That's right folks, we've got someone here who's actually so bothered by someone else's self-pity that he went off and made a movie depicting their brutal murder for entertainment. What's more "Emotional" than depicting bloody homicide towards a specific group of people? Not only is this movie the epitome of paradoxial violence, it isn't funny, nor is it a very good game, including all of about one choice the entire way through. I'm surprised you actually even passed this through the portal, much less earned front page.

Great Game, not too hard..

All you idiots that think the 2nd level is too hard need to give up on video games.. this was very easy up untill level 4. I would recommend infinate ammo on the mech level. Great game, keep them coming.

Wow

That was pretty freaking sweet. Made my day. I really enjoyed the ability to choose race/character/weapon. My only complaint is that it was a little to easy to get insane distances that take 10 minutes to end.

Badass

But, it gets really boring at around level 4. Make some different monsters or something. If you made different levels and an actually story, maybe this could have made front page.
