Extracting more 5's than $$$

The Good:
+I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you submitted this to actually increase charity flow to Japan, and bravo for that.

The Bad:
-You've made a game here where the actual content is completely meaningless. You may as well have just made a short tear-jerker movie.
-The aggregate score is utterly undeserved. Had this game come out two weeks ago without the backdrop of current events, it would probably be a 2.5ish rating.
-The game itself is incredibly boring. Mashing button combo's, really? And to make things worse you don't know the button combo's ahead of time, which leads to annoying restarting once you memorize the sequences (which never changes).

Final Words: Bad game, decent message - the only reason this has such high votes is sympathy and it almost comes off as exploitation.

Verdict: 2/5

Great idea.

The Good:
+Using buttons instead of clicking is a cool idea.
+The interface is very slick, and easy to understand.
+The music track makes for some sick remixes!

The Bad:
-Could use more sound clips. "This Review", "This Game", "Is So", "How is this an", "R", "P", "G", "Anyway" would all be nice. I'm sure there are more, but this is just off the top of my head.
-It'd be great to have an option to play the song used in the film in the background.

Final Words: Great idea, great execution, just begging for a few additions.

Verdict: 4/5

RicePirate responds:

If it was a larger scale project, I'd actually want to get the animations of the words to play :P

To the front page with you, and beyond!

The Good:
+Graphics were amazing! So amazing in fact, that they locked up my computer on low settings (yes, I'm running on a PoS).
+Voice acting was really, really good for a flash game.
+Overall, dude, this is far and away the best flash FPS game I've played. It's even better than some crap I've played on the console.
+Tons of different weapon choices, etc.

The Bad:
-Really, nothing I can see. Some more character customization would be nice (special passives and abilities, perhaps, as well as weapon camo), but it's only a suggestion.

Verdict: 5/5

Zero improvement.

I voted to pass your last game into the portal as it felt like it had some great potential. Here I am, looking at what is functionally the same game as before.

The Good:
+Graphics are above-average, though could use work.
+The gameplay is promising.

The Bad:
-The character moves very slowly!
-The boss mechanic itself is lacking and not very challenging. Just walking up to him and pumping rounds into him will result in a win before he can deplete your health.
-The game is very short, has no menus, only one weapon, and is just incomplete in every way imaginable.

Verdict: 2/5

FlashFireIan responds:

Thanks for the review. I'll work on the things you mentioned. Except that this is supposed to be short, as it is only a boss beta. The full game won't be out for about a year or so.

Edit 6/19/11:
-Fixed the character speed

-Working on the boss mechanics, its better now than it was before still

-Full game features
10 Levels (Rather than the one in the boss beta)
3 Characters
Pistol, Shotgun, Ak47, and Melee Weapons

And we re-did the graphics (for the better of course)

Education... on my Newgrounds?!

The Good:
+I like the idea of being able to draw while the work is done out in front of you, but it doesn't really seem very useful in practice.
+Very well explained! You should be a teacher, if you aren't already. Definitely talented work.

The Bad:
-Could've been a little longer, perhaps exploring different math lessons. Some sort of a menu would be cool if you ever expand on this idea.

Verdict: 4/5

AnteMax responds:

Haha, thanks for the well-thought comments. That's actually my buddy Sal from the Khan Academy doing his thing. We're just looking for ways to make his lessons more of a game, or at least something you can toy around wiht.

Fun stuff

The Good:
+I enjoyed the coordinates system, somewhat interesting.
+Tutorial is simple and to the point.

The Bad:
-No AI. Please add this, as it is right now playing against myself isn't very entertaining.
-Presentation could use a bit of work, the interface is very simple.
-The game has a very heavy luck element.

Overall, very nice game! 4/5.

lionheart2004 responds:

Thank you for the good feedback!

AI is certainly being looked at for future versions, and I agree that luck plays a big part in the gameplay. The designer is aware of these facts and will take them under great consideration if he decides to modify the game further. :)

Also noteworthy is that the game is intended for two players, as mentioned in the Author Comments section above. It is certainly understandable, then, that you would not be as entertained playing by yourself. Thanks again!

Decent.

The Good:
+Decent presentation (Could be better...)
+Graphics are alright
+Game has no glitches and plays smoothly.

The Bad:
-Game is way too easy and gets old quite fast.
-Sound effects were lacking
-Had no difficulty setting, stage numbers, ending, etc. etc.

Verdict: 3/5

Awesome stuff!

The Good:
+Challenging, unique gameplay
+Extra scoring opportunities
+Awesome world you've imagined here! Very creative.
+Ending was satisfying

The Bad:
-What's the tongue for?
-The spinning razors didn't seem to fit the theme of the game.. Just a minor qualm.

Verdict: 5/5

Pretty decent.

The Good:
+Unique concept.
+It's actually educational (in it's own way)
+Difficulty ramps up as you go along

The Bad:
-Sound effects get old, graphics aren't the best. The over-all quality was only average

Verdict: 3/5

Needs work.

Okay, let me start by saying I spent a LOT of time playing this game.

The Good:
+Great presentation
+Addictive gameplay (Must.. beat.. high.. score!!)

The Bad:
-Game won't end if you simply spam low-scoring words (ID, AE, ER, and other weird two-letter combinations that might be technically words, but really don't belong in a game like this). I got the high score of 500 points (KrinKalaster) before I just stopped playing out of boredom.
-Three-letter combinations don't give more than two-letter combinations.

Final Words: I suggest you change the following: No longer give points to two-letter words. Make three-letter words worth 1 point, four-letter words 3 points, five-letter words 6 points, etc. Longer words should reward more than simply spamming smaller words. Also, get rid of the feature that adds time whenever you finish a word. It would be much more fun with an actual time limit (not spastically making smaller combos to keep the timer up). It's a great game but has some serious flaws.

Verdict: 4/5

cyborg771 responds:

Thanks a lot for the feedback, 2 letter words aren't supposed to be worth anything so I'll take another look at my code. Thanks for all the positive feedback though.

BTW, I hope you don't take offence but with the new scoring system your score is unreasonably high and I'll have to clear the scoreboard. Wouldn't want to deprive everyone the chance to get the high score.
